The Advantage of the Mind Over the Body

According to Michael Merzenich, a professor at the University of California, "If you stop exercising the brain - and this is what often happens during retirement - then you shouldn't be surprised when it starts to die off." I'm not surprised at this finding because as a result of sitting in on classes like "Hand Analysis: Palmistry Rediscovered," "Car Maintenance 101," and "Getting into Commercial Voice-Overs," I feel brighter, lighter and re-invigorated! Just learning one new morsel about myself--i.e., I have "air" hands which are long with ballet-like fingers and exaggerated knuckles..I discovered that I'm artistic! What a neat discovery! I'm committed to making sure that if the brain truly operates on a "use-it or lose-it principle," I won't be losing anything in the near future. I hope this inspires you to take at least one new class a month..or commit yourself to mastering one new skill per month.
